India Monsoon Malabar
India Monsoon Malabar is a unique type of coffee known for its distinct flavor profile. This coffee originates from the Malabar Coast in southwestern India, where it undergoes a special processing method. The process involves exposing the coffee beans to the monsoon winds and rains for several months, typically from June to September. This exposure causes the beans to swell and lose some of their acidity while absorbing moisture from the humid air. As a result, the beans develop a mellow, smooth flavor with low acidity and a pronounced earthiness.
The Monsoon Malabar coffee is characterized by its full-bodied taste, with notes of spices, wood, and chocolate. It’s often described as having a complex flavor profile with a lingering finish. Due to its unique processing method and flavor profile, India Monsoon Malabar is sought after by coffee enthusiasts around the world.
The majority of Indian coffee is grown and processed in the Chikmagalur region. There, the coffee grows on steep mountain slopes at 1100m altitude. Our Monsooned Malabar comes from the Karadykan Estate, which is located in Chikmagalur. In 1890, Karadykan was founded by the two British brothers W.L. and C.S. Crawford, and later became the property of Sangameshwar Coffee. By absorbing moisture during monsoon rains, the coffee develops its extraordinary cup profile and aroma.
