Discover the world of coffee or enhance your skills to prepare the perfect cup of coffee. With more than 15 years collaborating with producers in the coffee plantations and actively participating in the roasting and brewing  we have many stories to tell you. Our modules “Introduction to coffee” and “Barista skills” follow the curricula of the Speciality Coffee Association (SCA). As Authorized Barista trainers from the SCA we grant certification on behalf of this important coffee entity.

Our courses are arranged in a a cozy and professional  coffee environment in Töölö which is equiped with state-of-the-art coffee equipments. The most great of everything: you will receive a good combination of theorical and practical information!

INTRODUCTION TO COFFEE

Learn about coffee’s journey from its origin in Ethiopia to the major commodity it is today. From growing the cherries  through grading , roasting and brewing, this module provides an overview of the coffee value chain.

BARISTA SKILLS

Our Barista courses are directed to professionals and coffee geeks who want to get the skills and knowledge required to produce the perfect espresso drinks.

We offer the three Barista skill levels of the the Speciality Coffee Association:

  • Foundation level(Recommended for Home Baristas)

The foundation level is a great way to get inside into the world of the Barista. This course is recommended for Home Baristas as well.

  • Intermediate level

This level is suitable if you are already working on the coffee sector and have firm knowledge of the basic Barista skills.

  • Advanced level

The professional level is suitable if you want to pursue specialist knowledge at a high level in your subject. Success of this level should indicate to employers about your competence to work in the field.

The courses are arranged at Cafetoria Coffee bar- Töölö.

Equipments used: Sanremo Racer (currently the sponsor of World Latte Art championship), ECM semi-professiona, Compak grinders, Mahlkonig grinders, Atago TDS, Hario/Chemex/Aeropress accessories.

Ivan Ore

Roaster/Cupper/Barista

Iván Oré (Juanca) is from Perú and is one of the founders of Cafetoria. He holds a Master degree in Telecommunications from Aalto University and was nominated in 2007 as one of the Top Inventors in Nokia worldwide. He left Nokia for coffee and in Cafetoria he is responsible of developing our roasting and flavour philosophy. He is the 2007 Finnish Cup Taster Champion and represented Finland in the World Cup Tasting competition in Copenhagen. He is also the inventor of the 2-step pre-infusion, a process that increases the nuances and extraction in drip brewing methods. Iván is an Authorized SCA trainer (AST) from the Speciality Coffee Association.

Levi do Nascimiento

Barista/Brewologist

Levi is from Portugal and joined Cafetoria many years ago. He is our Barista chief and you can see him at our Bar in Töölö making great espressos and manual brewing. He was responsible of brewing our drink that ended up as the 2nd Best Filter Coffee at the HCF in 2017. Levi is a SCA certified Barista- Professional level.
